Calculations & scoring

Same inputs.
Same answer.
Every single run.

A compliance score is going to be shown to a regulator, so it cannot come from a model, and it cannot come from a spreadsheet someone keeps on a laptop. It comes from a formula engine that is deterministic, evaluated safely, and configured in the product rather than written into the codebase.

How a score is defined

Four rows in a database, and the score is live.

A score is a field, a band is a field, a widget renders it and a wire connects it to the object. None of that is engine code, which is why a new scoring model for a new domain is a configuration change rather than a release.

Weights live on the options of the field being scored, so changing what a rating is worth is a configuration change with an audit entry, not a code change with a deployment.

Why it can be trusted

Determinism is not a feature here. It is the constraint everything else is built inside.

Exact arithmetic

Decimal precision throughout. Money and percentages do not drift the way floating point drifts.

Safely evaluated

Expressions are parsed and evaluated against a fixed function registry. There is no arbitrary execution behind a formula field.

Rollups on the graph

Aggregate up a hierarchy: average, sum, count, minimum, maximum, and counts that deduplicate shared children.

The rule that matters most

An absent input is not a zero.

Not rated is a real state
A record nobody has assessed is shown as not rated, in grey. It is not given the worst band and it is not given a passing one.
Because a guess compounds
A fabricated score rolls up into a group number, and then into a board pack, and nobody can find where it entered.
Coverage is its own number
How much of your estate has actually been assessed is reported separately from how well it scored.
The floor checks the gaps
The nightly deterministic run looks for exactly this: controls with nothing behind them, and scores standing on no evidence.
A score with no input
is not a zero. It is a question.
